What the heck what? All I see is an awesome ‘58 Continental.

I’m confused, what is the question questioning?

why did they do a reverse angled rear window like that?

Perhaps they were going for a Kline–Fogleman airfoil ?

So heavy the suspension collapsed.

A friend of mine and I had the tailgate up or down argument. He thought it was better to have the tailgate down. I figured it was better to have the tailgate up. Testing on many models shows that up is better ( https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid… ).

But that isn’t why I won the argument. He hit a set of railroad tracks at speed and his tailgate disconnected from the truck when one of the support wires broke. He dragged it for 1/4 of a mile before he could find a safe place to pull over. That was the last time he drove with the tailgate down.

The argument then became “tailgate on the truck or off”.

lol i’m guessing ‘at speed’ and the road speed limit are not the same number

You guess correctly, sir.

Speed limit, 45.

Actual speed, 85 (ish).

Distance traveled through air after hitting tracks, unknown.

It looks cool. Plus it set it apart from the Capri and Premiere that shared a body and the huge flat piece of glass let them incorporate their “Breezeway” retractable rear window. Even the convertible models were like that.

Kinja'd!!!

“Normal”-looking rear window:

It’s so the rear window could roll down without taking up any trunk space.

But then you have cars like the ford Anglia

Kinja'd!!!

Or the Citroen Ami 6

Kinja'd!!!

Where ostensibly the reverse window keeps the glass dirt and rain free.

Or cars like the Mazda Carol:

Kinja'd!!!

Where the window allowed a three-box body without having the rear seat passengers hitting their heads on the glass.

As a rule, I prefer four-door cars, but that red coupe is really handsome. In all, it’s one of those cars that startles me initially, but then rapidly grows on me.

Tailgate also helps the bed keep its shape.

Search ventilated tailgate . Less than $200.

Funny thing is, the aerodynamics of the truck are designed around the tailgate being in place. Some of the places that took on the tailgate up/down argument also tested nets. They found that replacing the tailgate with a net is worse than either the tailgate up or down.

It looks nifty. I wonder if it keeps rain off the rear glass when you're underway.
